It’s easy to become obsessed with what Google thinks of your web site or blog. Some people spend hours each day obsessing about how to get their web site or blog to #1….
Sometimes that’s a productive use of time, other times it’s not. If you’re an independent service professional, such as an attorney, a CPA or a coach/consultant, there’s one essential keyword where you should be almost GUARANTEED a #1 listing and that is when you google your own name.
Carol Solomon points out in her blog Tech Tips for Coaches that many coaching professionals find they are not to be found when they enter their own name into Google’s search engine. According to Carol:
So it’s fun and easy to do — Google your name and/or the name of your website and see if you are showing up in the search engines.
If you like what you see, great!
If not, see what you can do to get better results.
Your goal is to be on the first page — that’s how the game is played.
Being found by your name should be a BASIC REQUIREMENT for any web site. It’s amazing how often business owners pay thousands of dollars for "professional web development" only to find they can’t be found on the search engines, even when a potential client is looking SPECIFICALLY for them!
Carol reports that her Easy Coaching Website blogs do a great job of getting her people found in the search engines… an essential element when you’re a coaching professional. Coaching professionals are selling their expertise and time…. and it’s likely that people who are seeking a coach already have one in mind.
What surprises me is that other blogging platforms don’t appear to be delivering this key element, so do your research before you launch your blog.
