Blog Rush Is Dead – I Told You So Edition

by Kathy

Blog Rush was originally introduced as an easy way to increase web traffic to your blog.

I was introduced to the BLOG RUSH service via an email from a client.   We had just launched her blog and she forwarded a copy of the email sent to her by a MMO guru.  In the email,  Blog Rush began with promises that Blog Rush would increase traffic to your blog or website.  The email promised:

  • It gets you traffic to your blog
  • It adds relevant content to your blog
  • It ads (their spelling, not mine) new and constantly changing content
  • It makes your visitors happy
  • It is 100% F.ree
  • It is easy to use (all you need is a blog or website)
  • There is NO up-sell or after sign up offer

The Blog Rush marketing piece  was TRULY a case of an INSPIRED marketing message.  The offer they made to bloggers is truly irresistible.

In my blog post, Resisting the irresistible…. or how NOT to be a victim of a really great sales letter, I pointed out the “flaws” with the premise of Blog Rush.

Knowing this bit of information will help you to understand the glaring FLAW in the product’s business model.

From a marketing stand point…. it’s brilliant.  He’s addressing EVERY blog owner’s deepest desires:

  1. Effortless quality content
  2. Effortless quality visitors
  3. All of the above delivered for free.

However, while this product will probably be a HUGE success for the developer…it will do little for the countless throngs who sign up to allow him to syndicate his content via their blog. Those who sign up should not be surprised if adding his content to their site does NOTHING for their traffic or their customers.

Now it’s official. Blog Rush is Dead.

In his post, BlogRush Joins The Deadpool , Jeff Chandler writes:

I reviewed the service on September 17th 2007 on my personal site (BlogRush What Is This New Buzzword) and then followed up that post describing my actual experience with using the service (Is The BlogRush Over With)

Basically, I explained how I didn’t see a rush of traffic as the service promised and thus, I tossed it in the can only after five days of use.

I love being able to say, “I told you so!” ;)   And this is NOT sour grapes because Blog Rush dumped this blog.

No matter how often MMO gurus tell you the opposite, a blog is NOT a set it and forget it marketing tool.

In my humble opinion, Blog Rush was doomed from the moment they sent that first email.  Promising a “rush” of traffic caused successful bloggers (like Jeff Chandler) to toss the application quickly.   Blog real estate is PRECIOUS when you have traffic and an application that does nothing but take readers away doesn’t hold a lot of appeal to a successful blogger.

Let me end with the comment that the marketing of Blog Rush was INSPIRED!  They truly got a RUSH of blogs displaying the widget.  They successfully identified a DESIRE that many bloggers have and created a product with this DESIRE in mind.  Unfortunately, when Blog Rush failed to deliver what it promised – well – that was the beginning of the end.

Blog Rush was nothing but a headache in my opinion, it did nothing for my blog and no one clicked on the thing anywhere, it gave nothing, added nothing and I’m glad to see it gone.

Excellent summary of what happened to BlogRush and the people who took them up on their offer. I learned a thing or two during that experience and now I definitely know that there is no set it and forget it type of deal for gaining traffic. It takes hard work and a bit of luck mixed in with good content.
