The one keyword where you should be GUARANTEED a #1 ranking in Google

It’s easy to become obsessed with what Google thinks of your web site or blog.  Some people spend hours each day obsessing about how to get their web site or blog to #1….

Sometimes that’s a productive use of time, other times it’s not.  If you’re an independent service professional, such as an attorney, a CPA or a coach/consultant, there’s one essential keyword where you should be almost GUARANTEED a #1 listing and that is when you google your own name.

Carol Solomon points out in her blog Tech Tips for Coaches that many coaching professionals find they are not to be found when they enter their own name into Google’s search engine.  According to Carol:

So it’s fun and easy to do — Google your name and/or the name of your website and see if you are showing up in the search engines.

If you like what you see, great!

If not, see what you can do to get better results.

Your goal is to be on the first page — that’s how the game is played.

Being found by your name should be a BASIC REQUIREMENT for any web site.  It’s amazing how often business owners pay thousands of dollars for "professional web development" only to find they can’t be found on the search engines, even when a potential client is looking SPECIFICALLY for them!

Carol reports that her Easy Coaching Website blogs do a great job of getting her people found in the search engines… an essential element when you’re a coaching professional.  Coaching professionals are selling their expertise and time…. and it’s likely that people who are seeking a coach already have one in mind.

What surprises me is that other blogging platforms don’t appear to be delivering this key element, so do your research before you launch your blog.

Blogging Irregularity

You’ve seen the commercials… the man or woman is looking positively miserable as the voice over speaks of the pain of "irregularity".

If you’re a blog owner, then it’s important to recognize that irregular blogging is detrimental to YOUR blog’s health and well being. Nothing says, "No need to subscribe to this blog’s RSS" than the most recent post being more than a few days old!

The pain of irregularity in the body is beautifully illustrated in this popular joke:

One day the different parts of the body were having an argument to see which should be in charge.

The brain said, "I do all the thinking,  Therefore,  I’m the most important and I should be in charge."

The eyes said, "Most of what you know is from what I’ve seen!  I see everything and let the rest of you know where we are, so I’m the most important and I should be in charge."

The hands said, "Without us, the body wouldn’t be able to pick anything up or move anything. So we’re the most important and we should be in charge."

The stomach said, "I turn the food we eat into energy for the rest of you. Without me, we’d starve. So I’m the most important and I should be in charge."

The legs said, "Without me we wouldn’t be able to move anywhere. So I’m the most important and I should be in charge."

Then the rectum finally added it’s voice to the argument with a simple, "I think I should be in charge."

All the rest of the parts said, "YOU?!? You don’t do anything! You’re not important! You can’t be in charge."

So the rectum closed up.

After a few days, the legs were all wobbly, the stomach was all queasy, the hands were all shaky, the eyes were all watery, and the brain couldn’t think at all.

They all agreed that they couldn’t take any more of this and agreed to put the rectum in charge. And the moral of the story is?

You don’t have to be the most important to be in charge, just an a@@hole.

If you’re a blogger… remember… it’s good to be regular!

There are 3 BIG advantages of using a blog and scrapping traditional websites. OK, OK, you don’t have to scrap it — you can let it sit there and look pretty if you want. But DO add a blog if you want people to find you. Here’s why:

1. Blog-style websites have built-in editing software. So once it is set up, you don’t need special software to change something on your pages. It’s very easy to use.

2. Blogs are search-engine friendly. Google LOVES blogs, which is why you find so many of them when you search for information. Blogs get indexed FAR more quickly than traditional websites.

3. Easy Organization. When you add something to your blog, everything gets organized and categorized for you. It makes everything easy to find — like an awesome filing system online. You (and your visitors) can easily find whatever you/they are looking for.

Getting started with your own self hosted blog is easier than you may think.  Acumen Web Services has made it easy for anyone to launch a beautiful and effective self hosted word press blog.
